With a start like this, we're feeling pretty optimistic about 2017. Recently back in his home state of California after spending a handful of years based in London with a constant touring schedule, we have Seven Davis Jr playing the first WERD. Sunday of the year. A lifelong musician, he's one of the few forces today putting out songs, not tracks, for the dance floors around the world - something that has earned him the extreme honor of a frequent comparison to Prince. Starting out ghostwriting hip-hop, Seven Davis' Lost Tapes Vol. 1, a collection of Seven Davis' earlier recordings with a distinct injection of Seven's signature futuristic funk and soul made massive waves in musical circles both above and underground. After a couple more EPs, including releases on Apron Records and Derrick Carter's Classic Records, Seven Davis found himself discovered by electronic music behemoth Ninja Tune. Now, after a honeymoon period of enjoying the fame of such success, with constant touring all over the world, Seven Davis has taken his music into his own hands with his new record label, Secret Angels, just releasing his 2nd full length album in November 2016. He's going nowhere but up, and we think he'll bring us there too. Join us for this special edition of WERD as we bring in the new year under the spell of the one and only Seven Davis Jr.
