The Bunker 16 Year Anniversary with Function, Mareena
2018 was possibly our busiest year to date at The Bunker New York. The label started the year with the massive 15 Years of The Bunker compilation, and followed with 7 EPs, introducing Antenes, rrao, Abby Echiverri, and LDY OSC to our growing roster of label artists. We also released 23 new episodes of our podcast series, and did 33 broadcasts of our Red Bull Radio show. We took The Bunker on the road, celebrating our 15th anniversary in 16 different cities around the world. Most importantly, we threw 13 parties in NYC, and started working with New venues Nowadays and Elsewhere, and relaunched at Market Hotel after a two and a half year break.
Once again, we are excited to be celebrating our anniversary on the first weekend of January, as our first party ever was the first Friday of January back in 2003. This year we’ve invited a couple close friends from Berlin to play alongside a home team lineup.
The Hall will be headlined by Function. It has been our great pleasure to watch him thrive since he moved to Berlin back in 2008, first as a founding member of Sandwell District, and then as an Ostgut Ton label artist and Berghain resident who also relaunched his legendary Infrastructure NY imprint. In early 2018, he made his debut on The Bunker New York label with “Norfolk Street Acid”, a nod to subTonic, the venue where it all started for The Bunker, where he was a regular artist and patron. It’s been a while since Function has played a proper solo set at The Bunker, and after many legendary sets for us over the years, we’re very excited for what he has in store. Also in The Hall is Mareena, who hosts a quarterly Klubnacht at Tresor in Berlin and is also the mastermind behind the Unrush podcast and event series. Opening the room will be The Bunker founder and resident DJ Bryan Kasenic.
In Zone One we present the world debut live set from Lauren Flax, who will be joining The Bunker’s label and booking agency in 2019. Opening things up will be Unjust, who was born and raised in Miami (where she started to rep Schematic), did a long stint in NYC (where she was a resident DJ at The Bunker in 2005-2006), and now lives in Peru. Closing the room will be our beloved resident DJ, Mike Servito.
Up in The Loft, which was recently renovated, we will once again be presenting more chilled out meditative sounds, this time with The Bunker label artists Abby Echiverri and rrao.
