Like his mythological namesake, Daedelus is an inventor, a creator of sonic labyrinths. He recombines sounds from an eclectic palette into an innovative genre all his own.
Otherwise known as Alfred Darlington, the Los Angeles producer has over two-dozen releases on a variety of labels and collaborates with musicians in many worlds: electronic, jazz, hip-hop, etc. His music runs the gamut of emotion, alternately intense and mellow, exuberant and melancholy, danceable and introspective.
Daedelus has performed over a thousand shows for audiences on five continents, everywhere from Iceland to Istanbul. He is a founding father of the L.A. "Beat Scene," often playing the storied Low End Theory club nights.
Each live show is unique, employing Monome controllers and open-source software which allows for on-the-fly improvisation. The backdrop onstage is Daedelus' collaborative invention Archimedes, a robotic array of moving mirrors which reacts to and reflects the performance.
Recently Daedelus has composed the soundtrack for the award-winning video game Nidhogg.
Records include: Labyrinths (2016, Magical Properties), Kneedelus (w/ Kneebody 2015, Brainfeeder), Of Beyond (w/ Frosty as Adventure Time - 2014), The Light Brigade (2014, Brainfeeder), Drown Out (2013, Anticon), Looking Ocean (2012, Scion A/V), Bespoke (2011, Ninjatune), Righteous Fist of Harmony (2010, Brainfeeder), Love To Make Music To (2008, Ninjatune), Denies The Day's Demise (2006, Ninjatune), Exquisite Corpse (2005, Ninjatune), Of Snowdonia (2004, Plug Research), A Gent Agent (2004, Laboratory Instinct), Dreams of Water Themes (w/ Frosty as Adventure Time - 2003), The Weather (2003, Mush), Invention (2002, Plug Research), Her's Is > (2001, Phthalo)
In defying the laws of tradition, Los Angeles based music producer Mono/Poly (born Charles Dickerson) has managed to outstrip the logics of multi-genre producing. Known for his distinct madness of face melting bass, paired with his dreamy astral soundscapes of glitch-based hip-hop, Mono/Poly has proved himself to be a natural phenomenon.
His debut album, "The George Machine" (EP) was released in the fall of 2009 on Faces Records, which was followed by his first full-length solo album “Paramatma" (Tasteful Licks) in the spring of 2010. In 2011 Mono/Poly released “Manifestations", making a strong debut on the Brainfeeder label, and it continues its heavy rotation being played by the likes of Radiohead, Erykah Badu and Jay Scarlett at BBC Radio’s 1XTRA. After the self released “Killer B’s” released in 2012 he began 2014 at Brainfeeder with the full length album “Golden Skies”. Continuing this momentum 2014 saw the success of “Cryptic” on Hit+Run, which has made it’s way to the global airwaves on various radio shows including LeFtO’s weekly on Belgiums Studio Brussel.
Mono/Poly appears on releases from Warp records and Planet Mu, featured alongside fellow artists Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Daedelus, and Nosaj Thing. His gravitational attraction to revolutionary sounds has gained vast recognition among listeners and artists as one of the hottest up-and-coming producers in the world.
In 2015 he had a featured track on the new Grand Theft Auto 5 soundtrack, Ne-Yo's 'Religious', and 'Skip Skip' by Tha Dogg Pound & Snoop Dogg. Lately Mono/Poly has been busy with features on Thundercat’s “Drunk", and Noisia’s newest album “Outer Edges Remixes”, as well as production work with Kendrick Lamar on the song “Untitled 08” (Blue Faces).
He continues to perform his live sets across the globe having covered places such as Greece, Switzerland, France and Lithuania, in addition to his touring in the US.
ABOUT FREE THE ROBOTS
Chris Alfaro always has a new story to tell with his ever-evolving solo project Free the Robots. The next chapter, titled 'The Balance', is exactly that. The sound resonates somewhere between chaos and solitude, where Alfaro has literally found balance. As a musician, beat maker, DJ, and owner of the iconic restaurant / bar, The Crosby, he has always had the ability to jump in and out of other worlds inspiring a unique signature sound that hints at jazz, psych, electronic, and hip hop, while remaining un-genre-fiable. His open-ended imagination and tendency to break free from any boundaries keeps a steady flow of ideas running through his head, constantly moving him forward; away from robotic monotony, ultimately freeing the robots.
Rooted in Santa Ana, CA, Free the Robots has spent over a decade taking his craft to audiences around the globe. Known as one of the pioneering artists to come out of LA's beat movement, he continues on building his line up of original recordings in directions still unknown. The energy and technical skill behind his live performances have landed him among the greats, sharing stages with the likes of Dj Shadow, Prefuse 73, Flying Lotus, to Afrika Bambaataa.
With the recent release of 'The Balance', Alfaro continues to demonstrate a consistent flow of freedom and diversity with his sound. From beginning to end, listening to 'The Balance' will take you on a cerebral journey through your inner world. While you're there, let go of your surroundings and let your imagination run free.
