Rave: Umfang and DJ Bus Replacement Service
⇢ THE NIGHT
Every Saturday, we spark up the strobe lights, set the smoke machines to eleven and bang the box until the bodegas open again. Techno, electro, psycho - whatever. If you like it hard, you’ll probably love it here...
A rotating cast of resident DJs set the tone for our raves, usually in the company of a guest they've invited to share the decks with but sometimes all night, just by themselves. Some details below on how it'll run this time.
⇢⇢ THE LINEUP
Umfang is Emma Olson, a Bronx-born, Kansas-raised, Brooklyn-based techno DJ and producer with releases on Technicolour and 1080p. She co-founded the Discwoman collective, heads up the monthly get down Technofeminism and is one of our treasured resident selectors here at Nowadays. She likes to push boundaries and play with expectations, which makes this night's pairing particularly apt.
DJ Bus Replacement Service, real name Doris Woo, dons a latex Kim Jong-un mask to perform, which is not the most oddball thing about her sets. She is supremely (get it? Kim Jong — never mind) devoted to unearthing the most left-field, unexpected, head-scratchingest and often hilarious jams and serving them puckishly to some of the most discerning dance floors in the world. You'll dance, you'll laugh, you'll question everything you thought you knew about a club set. Show up and come unglued.
