Noise Pop 2016 w/ Kneedelus (Kneebody + Daedelus)
Produced in conjunction with Noise Pop, this exclusive evening brings together the ecstatic, GRAMMY-nominated jazz-funk of Kneebody and the innovative electronic producer Daedalus for a wildly inventive hybrid of cutting edge grooves. An explosive band that channels rock-informed energy into their soul-jazz, bebop and electro-funk based compositions, the Los Angeles-based Kneebody has carved out a distinct group identity, releasing nine albums including their GRAMMY-nominated 2008 collaboration with vocalist Theo Bleckmann re-imagining the songs of maverick composer Charles Ives.
Alfred Darlington, better known as Daedalus, was a double bass major at USC before jumping headlong into electronic music as a DJ, producer, re-mixer and composer. He has re-mixed and collaborated with a who’s-who of the electronic music scene including Flying Lotus, Amon Tobin, Gaslamp Killer, Nosaj Thing and Quantic, and recorded fifteen full-length albums for the Plug Research and Ninja Tune labels, among others.
The collaboration of Kneebody saxophonist Ben Wendel and Daedalus stretches back over a decade, with the two acts making their onstage debut in an improvised appearance at Jazz A Vienne in 2009. Their new collaborative album on superstar producer Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder label, Kneedalus, was released in November to widespread acclaim.
