MUTEK.SF returns to Mezzanine with simultaneous programming occurring next door at the historic San Francisco Mint. In Mezzanine, techno legends collide with thrilling new voices. We’re thrilled to host the North American DEBUT of p:anorig, the live collaborative techno project from Luxembourg’s Francesco Tristano with Detroit techno originator Derrick May. Detroit electro pioneers Aux 88 are also on board; Germany’s Errorsmith and U.K. artist Perera Elsewhere, both debut live performances, will challenge expected forms while local duo Watkins / Peacock opens with gentle dub improvisation.
Minutes away, MUTEK.SF takes over the old San Francisco Mint, where the festival’s most high-octane programming is featured. Psychedelic techno-noise trailblazers Orphx and visual artist Diagraf lead the way, followed closely by one of techno’s most remarkable new voices, France’s rRoxymore, with visuals by Trece Cielos. Bay Area artists include Oakland’s Russell E.L. Butler and visual artist Ian Colon, plus San Francisco’s Bézier. In the Mint’s vaults, we’re showcasing several installation works, including “Teratogenesis” by Jonathan Beilin and Magnus Pind; “Strobe Piece” by Greg Zifcak; and “Aquarium” by Marpi.
