Housepitality: Brett Johnson/ Victor Vega/ Timoteo Gigante
(Classic Music Company)
With influences ranging from early house and disco to turntablism and techno, BRETT JOHNSON successfully straddles the line between knowledgeable "thinking man's" DJ and genuine, primal floor-filler. Brett's sound is best known as groovy, bumping house with a hearty dose of techno elements, crafted and mixed in a way that is truly identifiable as his own. Whether DJing or creating music, his wild card is an ability to inject warmth and soul into his electronic sound. The result is an impressive discography filled with unique statements, otherworldly surprises, and undeniable club stompers.
VICTOR VEGA, hailing from Jersey City via Northampton, has been part of the dance-music culture for the past 14 years studying media production, promotion, and learning the music. In 2004, Victor moved from Massachusetts to California to further his knowledge of event and music production, promotion, and DJing.
Some of Victor’s early dance influences were genres such as Latin and Acid House, Hip-Hop, R ’n’ B, World Beat music and such unlikely sounds as Classical and Classic Rock. During the last two and one-half years, Vega has honed his craft of sculpting the sounds of Electro, Tech House, keeping it dirty and juicy so that it makes you want to freaky deaky.
In moving to San Francisco and working with the Fringe Art Collective and Janky barge. Victor has enjoyed the honor of playing alongside artists such as The Juan McLain, Freestylers, Bassnectar, BLVD, Glitch Mob, Stanton Warriors, and DJ Icey in venues such as Poleng Lounge, Anu, Mighty, Rain Dance (Santa Cruz), Get Freaky @ 10:15, Burning Man, and Decompression. Victor countinues his quest for the last four years with the Housepitality Crew as resident DJ and Floor Manager.
In the coming years, Victor will be focusing further on music production and in utilizing more hardware technology to extend the fluidity of the mix, and continuing his quest for excellence in event-production for the ever-demanding public. Meanwhile, Vega doesn’t lose sight of the point of all this which is to bring people together to share common interests and participate in the evolution of the culture and, most importantly, bust a move like no one gives a shit!
TIMOTEO GIGANTE has been playing music since he was 13 and DJing since the mid 1990s. He moved to Europe out of high school to enrich his world-view and learn different musical techniques, e.g. flamenco guitar. After a year in Spain and many months around central Europe he returned to San Francisco to further seek exploration in music and music history. He was awakened each morning to the VERY loud scratch routines of DJ Gordo Cabeza. They lived together for several years. Timo couldn’t beat him, so he joined him. Stealing many hours of practice on Gordo’s turntables and spending a small fortune on records led, quickly, to many gigs and residencies in SF, NYC and Europe.
His musical selections have the common bond of two distinct characteristics: Soul and Funk. From the Columbian disco of Fruko y sus Tesos to the soulful reggae vocals of Alton Ellis and John Holt. From Golden Era hip hop (His brother was in a break dancing crew in 1983) to Motown. From Nigerian legend Fela Ransome-Kuti to The Funky Meters (Art Neville picked him up hitchhiking when he was 18 and invited him back to his home studio). From Neo Soul to Jamaican Dub. From House m
