Fort Knox Five- Some seriously funky groups come in Five’s - The Jackson 5, The MC 5, Jurassic 5… and of course Fort Knox Five.
Fort Knox Five is known for bending genres and using a broad range of musical elements in their creation of highly original music. This approach ultimately pioneered a funky scene where FK5 continues to top charts today.
While Fort Knox Five compose music like a band in the studio with live instrumentation blended into electronic music, they are renowned for their exciting and eclectic DJ performances. Founding members Steve Raskin and Jon Horvath established a unique live DJ set using mashed-up acapellas and effects woven into original tracks, exclusive mixes and dance floor destroyers. These sets have proven to be irresistible to club goers worldwide, rocking parties with infectious grooves that effortlessly move from funk, reggae & glitch-hop to prime time 4/4 beats & breaks.
With the untimely passing of Jon H, Steve Raskin has taken over as the principle DJ for the group and now leads the charge of the Fort Knox brigade on the road into the funky future. He tours their signature brand of glitched-out funk with high energy sets in every environment from pools to lounges to world famous clubs and some of the largest festivals across the globe.
Fort Knox Five has toured and performed for nearly two decades alongside major artists like The Beastie Boys, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy, Jurassic 5, Z Trip, Diplo, A Trak, Craze, Gwen Stefani, the Black Eyed Peas, A Skillz, Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors, Bassnectar, Skrillex, and London Electricity. They have performed on 5 continents and in over 30 different countries and have had their music featured on every medium from award-winning video games to Oscar-winning films.
Forget about tempos and genres, let Fort Knox Five take you on a musical journey that unites the funk, soul, jazz, hip hop and electronic generations.

Little John the DJ - As an ubiquitous fixture of Northern California's music scene Little John is more than a DJ and an icon; he is a force of nature.
An extraordinary DJ, producer, remixer, and music historian, Little John's musical artistry transcends genres with an intensity, knowledge and savviness possessed by few. Whether he's playing Tech-House, Mid-tempo, Future Bass, or Booty Slap, this innovator continually unites factions and taps new levels of creativity simply for the heart of it. With an acutely discerning ear and an open mind and heart, his ability to read a crowd and mix the perfect vibe truly sets him apart. His is a genuinely unique approach that will move body, mind, and soul.
His roots run deeply through the creative hot-bed of San Francisco's mid 90's underground House scene and the incredibly diverse Santa Cruz free party scene. He became a resident of the legendary 13 Moon Tribe while simultaneously pioneering production of the wildly successful Raindance events, which continue to run strong today. Little John has played along-side many other first-class musicians and is regularly requested with such acts as Bassnectar, Tipper, Mark Farina, A.Skillz, and Fort Knox Five, to name just a few.

Motion Potion - MoPo (aka Robbie Kowal) is one of America's most versatile, experienced and flat-out joyous party rockers. His decade long mission is to 'put the party back into the party', and to connect the casual music fan with the hard core dance music mavens; proving that music is more than just beats. San Francisco’s bootleg indie remix partypusher, is known for a rare ability to play exactly the right music for the moment and an expertise with a wide variety of genres that he seamlessly melds into a coherent blend. Since breaking out as a rare groove Dj in the 90's he has spent the 21st Century using eclectic club styles, break beat, trip hop and tech funk as a backdrop for his genre-bending experiments. From a near religious love of funk and hip hop, to a lifetime study of rock and roll to a massive aptitude for latin, reggae and other outernational formats, MoPo incorporates bits and pieces of music culture into electronic edits that slam the dancefloor. As a backdrop, he creates, edits or chooses only the biggest baddest breaks, hooks and drops to create a sound that truly slams. To the dancer, MoPo is a breath of fresh air, often transforming a room into collective song or crowd chant that connect the audience to the DJ.
These abilities have seen him preceding, following or tagging with a who’s who of breakbeat heroes like Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Icey, Cut Chemist, Grandmaster Flash, James Lavelle, Bassnectar, DJ Vadim, Tipper, Kraak & Smaak, Aquasky, Fort Knox 5, Z-trip. A live turntablist for the indie techno circus The Mutaytor, MoPo has sat in with Parliament-Funkadelic, Galactic, Rebirth Brass Band and BLVD. Nick “Pumpkin” Alvarado was a beloved musician, clown and most importantly, friend to so many in our community. While he is sadly no longer with us, his spirit lives on through his music and the thousands of people he touched over the years. To honor his memory, the Little Giant Acorn Foundation memorial fund has been established to help children who want to pursue a career in music or performing arts that otherwise couldn’t afford to.
Another goal of the fundraising is to finish Nick's music. Pumpkin and Little Giants both had music that was nearly finished that still needs to be released and shared wit the masses. All the funds raised here will go back into the memorial fund. A remix charity album will be created by Pumpkin's Peers and we are also selling memorial t-shirts.
By purchasing tickets to The 4th Annual Pumpkin Ball you are ensuring Nick’s spirit continues to shine bright while also helping to inspire the next generation of little acorns.
Stay tuned to this page for much more on special events, classes, workshops, and how you can help children who can't afford an education in the arts and music on their own.
