After Dawn :Lily Ackerman, Mossmoss B2B Patrick Gil, Emanate
After Dawn is a weekly Sunday Morning party that happens at Monroe SF
About the Line-Up :
>>> Lily Ackerman (Diacritic Collective, Celectsf)
Since Lily Ackerman started playing classical piano at age eight, music has been a part of her life. Although it took more than twenty years, she eventually evolved from a classical music performer into an electronic music producer. Electronic music came into her life in 2010, when she discovered the underground house and techno scene in San Francisco. After spending a year in various clubs and underground locations, she wanted to expand her involvement in the music scene and started producing in late 2011. She released two EPs on Mioli Music in 2013 and a remix on Friends with Benefits Records in 2014. Starting in 2015, Lily shifted gears from production to DJing and plays vinyl sets in various locations around San Francisco. She is a co-founder of the Diacritic Collective, a tight-knit group of friends who share the same passion for music - making it, digging for it, and sharing it with others, especially vinyl.
>>>Mossmoss (As You Like It)
Mossmoss (aka Mattie Bowen) is a Scottish born dj and producer with an intense interest in explorative dance music. With a keen ear and eye for detail, he is an artist by nature. His wandering sets paint landscapes of light and dark patterns, textures, and strange melody. Mattie's inspiration draws from the organic details of existence, the tiny pieces most overlook in exchange for the big-picture rush of an ever changing modern world. His mind deeply set to explore these facets and to share his exploration in all forms to those that might look and listen. Mossmoss currently resides San Francisco and draws on The City and its colorful nightlife for constant immersive inspiration.
>>> Emanate (Mioli Music)
Emanate (Emily & Nate) fell in love with the mystique of electronic music at an early age. Nathan Vain knew right away what his future passion held when he acquired his first turntables at the age of 17. Emily Fox took a different route starting her journey in the music scene as an organizer and promoter. This endeavor lead to landing Nathan his first residency at a popular after hours spot back in 2001.
A few years down the road and a desire for their success growing strong they moved to San Francisco together and started producing music as Emanate. Nathan enhanced his knowledge of music and the industry working at DanceRecords.com
from ‘04 to ‘09 as a Content Manager. That was followed by a stint interning at the
Mothership / Dirtybird labels. He also spent some time at the DJTechTools office working with midi controllers and software. Emily has developed her understanding of electronic music culture by throwing various events throughout San Francisco over the years. She also spent some time as a member of (a few) bands where she was writing songs, singing and playing keyboard. Emily’s next logical step became DJing, as a way to expand her talents and performance needs.
Following the path of natural evolution they started up their own label Mioli Music in 2010 (Move It Or Lose It). Since 2010 they’ve released music as Emanate and individually. They have also signed various international artists on Mioli.
Both Emanate and Mioli had a breakout year in 2013 when Kollektiv Turmstrasse charted their remixes of Lily Ackerman’s “Africa” and also their remix of Tr-Ack’s “Stay” on Resident Advisor. Being featured, charted and played in DJ sets along with the likes of Stimming, Adriatique, Bonobo and David August was a milestone that validated their hard work and dedication, it also alerted the world of their arrival.
A relocation to Berlin in early 2014 helped formulate and solidify their craft and sound. While in Berlin Emanate produced and released their debut album “Alliance” and played their first Live Show. The Alliance album was well received and featured on various music magazine websites and dance music blogs but also recognized by Emanate as an immensely developmental experience. 2016 was a remarkable year in their progression touring Mexico, Ibiza, Bulgaria, Berlin. With festival bookings at BPM, Mountains in the Meadows and Northern Nights. Most recently they toured
the U.S. performing at imfamous venues such as TV Lounge, Spy Bar and Members Only.
From Techno, Tech House to Deep House you can expect a clever blend and balance of deep and edgy music that is thoughtfully procured.
>>> Patrick Gil (Das Sind Wir/ Direct To Earth)
Patrick has lived in California all his life, and it shapes his interpretation of electronic music. Raised in the 90's and 00's on psychedelic rock, jazz, electronica, indie, singer songwriter - and later on - techno and house music, he finds strains of inspiration through the music he was exposed to and has been creating since age 15. He works as a live sound and video production engineer, as well as an event producer in San Francisco; and has successfully found a way to merge his career and passion into a happy medium, that translates into his body of work.
His production technique is shaped by analog synthesizers, guitar pedals, software tricks, far-out samples, and dub techniques. His productions have appeared at the likes of Berghain/Panorama Bar, Space Club Ibiza, Fabric London, Movement Festival Detroit, Slam Radio, and other various clubs, radio shows and podcasts all over the world. He believes in simple and spacious sounds that translate into an open canvas for every DJ to interpret his own story through.
As a DJ himself, he prefers long, smooth and spacious mixing and storytelling through the slow build. He seeks the same qualities in the music he plays as he produces. Lush or dissonant, slow grooving or jacking; he tries always to find the in-between sounds that stretch out the minds of listeners and dancers. He prefers to play without a computer, and keeps the mixes smooth and tight, with bits of surprises along the way.
